Couple Can’t Cope With What’s Sent to Their Hotel Room After Casual Chat With Staff

A video about a comical misunderstanding during a couple’s hotel stay in Saint Lucia has gone viral on TikTok.
The clip, shared by user @madfurrrr, has so far amassed over 353,000 views since it was first posted on May 31.
The video opens with a woman named Madeline saying, “Okay Dan, tell us what just happened.” The footage then shows a man named Dan, standing by the side of a bed in their hotel room, ready to recount the amusing chain of events.

“So, we’re walking home from dinner. We’re chatting with one of the lovely people [who] works at the hotel. She says, ‘Madeline, your dress is really pretty. It looks really great on you,'” Dan explained.
Madeline responds to the compliment with enthusiasm, saying, “Oh my gosh. Thank you so much. I really love Abercrombie [clothing brand Abercrombie & Fitch]. Do you guys have Abercrombie here?” Dan continues to recount.
When Madeline asked whether or not Abercrombie & Fitch was sold on the island, the hotel staff member, evidently puzzled, replied, “Huh, I’m not sure about that. I’ll have to inquire and ask. Who is your butler?”
In the video, Dan continues the story, sharing that “Madeline told her [the staff member] the butler’s name. So, our butler arrived at our door with this apple crumble, which is the dessert that the other person thought that Madeline asked for.”

As laughter is heard in the background, Dan concludes, “So, now we have a lovely tart that’s actually not an apple crumble…they do not have Abercrombie or apple crumble at this resort.”
A caption shared with the video reads: “That was so nice…we have to eat it right? #honeymoon #stlucia.”

The viral post comes as hotel occupancy in the United States is expected to reach 63.6 percent in 2024, 3.4 percent shy of the 65.8 percent reported in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic, marking “a significant improvement” over 2020’s historic low of 43.8 percent, according to the 2024 State of the Industry report by the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA).
Friendliness and cleanliness remain “essential to positive guest experiences,” the AHLA report found. A survey asking consumers what steps hotels should take to ensure their guests enjoy a positive experience found that travelers “ranked guestroom cleanliness, property cleanliness, and friendly staff as the most important factors.”
According to the report, hotels in the U.S. lost more than 680,000 direct employees in one year from 2019 to 2020. This year, U.S. hotels are projected to directly employ more than 2.1 million people.
TikTok users on the social media platform were amused by the hilarious mix-up in the video’s comments section.

“If that is not customer service!!!” added @honeymoonalways_.
User sentient jar of presson nails wrote: “Haha aw she was trying so hard to be helpful that’s so sweet.”
“I will now and forevermore be referring to Abercrombie as apple crumble,” dino_sorr posted.
Ashley simply wrote “Applecrombie,” while brandish49 noted “Apple crumble & fitch.”
